When you embark on a summertime houseboating vacation, chances are that you fill your luggage with bathing suits, water toys, and all the gear you’ll need for fun in the sun.

But Shasta Lake isn’t just open and inviting in the summer months – it’s a destination that sparkles in all seasons. So, any time of year is a great time to make your escape to this remote and relaxing Northern California haven.

In the cooler spring months:

  • The crowds are sparse
  • The landscapes are bright with budding trees and wildflowers
  • The prices are enticing with value season rates for houseboats of all sizes

With that being said, your packing list for a cooler weather retreat will be different than what you bring along for a summertime getaway.

Make your planning and your springtime vacation a success by bringing along these items that will come in handy in all temperatures.

1. Layers

In the springtime, the days can be warm and bright with temperatures in the mid to high 60s, but the nights can get a little cooler and cozier, with temperatures in the 40s and 50s.

As such, layers will allow you to enjoy whatever the weather brings, without much fuss. Be sure and pack along sweaters and jackets, as well as short-sleeved tees and shorts, just so you’ll be supplied for all weather conditions, day or night.

2. Sunscreen

It may seem that because the weather is cooler, you can leave your sunscreen and chapstick behind, but this couldn’t be further from the truth!

The sun is naturally more intense off the open water, so sunscreen is a necessity in all seasons on Shasta Lake. Don’t forget to pack along the sunglasses, too!

3. Campfire Equipment

The spring is an ideal time to pick a remote stretch of shoreline and cozy up to a warm campfire. And with the lack of people and beautifully cool nights, it’s an activity that every Shasta Lake vacationer should enjoy at least once during their getaway.

So be sure to bring along all the items you’ll need for a cool campfire adventure or two, such as:

  • Firewood
  • Fire starting materials
  • Camping chairs
  • Outdoor cooking equipment
  • And don’t forget the marshmallows

4. Extra Blankets

You’ll find that your houseboat is stocked with just about everything you’ll need to enjoy a stress-free week onboard, from paper towels and dish soap to coffee makers and gas barbecues.

But in the springtime, a little extra warmth will come in handy on those evenings when you want to step outside and enjoy the night stars!

Bring along both extra blankets for the bed, and more rugged blankets for evenings out, and enjoy ample time outside, throughout your vacation.

A springtime vacation can offer a world of surprising enticements. From the budget-friendly appeal to the thrill of having miles of shoreline all to yourself, the spring is a hidden gem of a season on Shasta Lake.
